Day 45: Helping newcomers find a home in Toronto

We are Naama and Misha, Architects-in-training from Israel. We moved to Toronto in 2014 when Misha was doing his Masters in Urban Design at UofT and decided to extend our stay because we love it here.

The Jewish Community (in Toronto) made a huge difference for us, in so many aspects. We immediately felt like we belong and people were reaching out to us. One of the most significant interactions was the ‘Family to Family’ program presented by JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services) Toronto, where I (Naama) was matched with Joelle (photo left), we just clicked and today Joelle is one of the closest friends I have.

Many newcomers to Toronto are finding their way with instrumental help from organizations like JIAS Toronto, the Schwartz/Reisman Centre, the Prosserman JCC, JVS (Jewish Vocational Services) Toronto and more.  It can take many touch points until a newcomer feels secure in their new environment.  That is why a gift to UJA has a greater impact because we support over 100 agencies and organizations ready and willing to help communities members thrive.

Through UJA you can make the biggest impact on the issues you care about most. Make a gift to UJA today.
