Day 32: That Time when Shimon Peres visited the Lipa Green Centre

On this Throwback Thursday, we remember that time when Shimon Peres z”l visited the Lipa Green Centre, during a UJA telethon.  So many of our community members have a Shimon Peres story.  Here’s Jeff Springer’s.

I recall fondly the excitement in the 4th floor conference centre of the Lipa Green Centre on Super Sunday, September 24th 1989 when Shimon Peres, the Finance Minister and former Prime Minister of the State of Israel walked in, TV cameras in tow.

Super Sunday was my very first assignment as a new campaign professional at UJA and having spoken with Shimon Peres and being thanked by him for what I do for the Jewish people was something that I will never forget.  We have lost a Jewish leader whose concern was not just the Israeli people  but Jewish people around the globe.  He will be sorely missed.

Jeff Springer is the Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs at UJA Federation. He has been helping the Jewish people for over 27 years.

We also have another UJA photo of Peres to show you:
